Jane Warren
Administrator and Nova Scotia Representative
Jane is a white-knuckle flier… who loves to travel!
As a student, she excelled both academically and athletically, winning numerous provincial and national awards and prizes for her academic achievements, citizenship and sporting accomplishments. Jane was the first female firefighter on mainland Nova Scotia. Jane competed at the Canadian National Track and Field Championships as a javelin thrower. She was also a competitive swimmer. After earning a mathematics degree at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, she left for a summer in Europe. That summer holiday stretched into a five-year adventure, during which time she fuelled her passion for exploration with a series of temporary jobs like putting the ball in roll-on deodorant, driving a forklift in a gin distillery and arranging travel for the Council for National Academic Awards. When not working, she toured Europe in a double-decker bus, took the old Orient Express to Istanbul, and cycled across Ireland.
However, Jane’s greatest journey began with a car accident on a snowy road near her Annapolis Valley home in December 1981. Jane spent two weeks in a coma, followed by nearly four months in hospital. Out of hospital she fought to regain her life. Jane re-enrolled at Acadia. Because of the long-term effects of the accident it took ten years to complete her second degree. A fighter, she then enrolled at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, where she earned her MBA.
Since graduation Jane became active as a volunteer with the disabled community. She has been chair of the Nova Scotia Survivors’ Advisory Committee, and the first survivor-president of the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia. She is involved with Women for Wellness, Feminists for Just and Equitable Public Policy, and Treasurer of the DisAbled Women’s Network of Canada.
Jane lives in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, with her husband Jake.
