To mark the launch of this year’s 1 Day in May awareness campaign, the MS Society is releasing Action on MS. Action on MS details what impacts the quality of life for Canadians affected by MS and calls on federal, provincial and territorial governments to address these issues. The report draws from dialogue with over 6,000 Canadians affected by MS through the “Listening to People Affected by MS Initiative”. For more information about the initiative, visit mslistening.ca.
To mark this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, the Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters and Transition Houses is launching its first national shelter data count project.
In 2010, there were 593 shelters for women survivors of abuse and their children operating in Canada with a total of 11,461 beds. That’s the kind of undiminishing reality that prompted the Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters & Transition Houses to launch the Mapping VAW Policies & Opportunities project last year. An emerging report funded by the Canadian Women’s Foundation reviews gaps between existing policies and legislation in Canada related to violence against women (VAW).
