October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2016

This is a photo of woman in a pink bathing suit submerged under water. Sunlight is reflecting on her body. The image appears to be reflecting above the water but it is distorted and dark. C’est une image d’une femme en costume de bain rose dans l’eau. Le soleil se reflète sur son corps. L’image est nuancée et sombre.

Throughout October 2016, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the DisAbled Women’s Network of Canada (DAWN Canada) will be sharing research and stories to raise awareness of the barriers which limit access to health care, along with resources and information to address them.

We will also be launching our Public Service Announcement (PSA) on cancer screening. This PSA entitled “I got screened!” encourages people with disabilities to get screened for cancer.

We encourage you to check our website regularly for new information, resources and stories about the challenges and successes that women with disabilities and Deaf women in particular have faced in getting equitable breast cancer treatment.

You can also “Like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to show your support for health equity for people with disabilities!
