WHAT IS THE PIKWADIN PROJECT?

The Pikwadin Project is one of the many initiatives by the First Nations Human Resource and Development Commission of Quebec (FNHRDCQ) that assists Aboriginals to find meaningful employment.

The Pikwadin Project is specifically for persons who cannot find employment because they have a disability, or because they face other obstacles or barriers to finding work.

The Pikwadin Project assists participants by providing them with training where focus is placed on learning essential skills that are needed in most jobs. A local Pikwadin coordinator then aids the participant to find a temporary job placement among partner employers, either within the community or in the surrounding area.

Pikwadin is from an Algonquin word meaning “mountain”. This symbolic “mountain” well represents the challenges persons with disabilities or barriers may sometimes face—but with a little help, the right tools, and some effort, these challenges can be overcome!
